Wanna know how I know everything isn't made to order? Someone in the group had an allergen to black pepper. She was instantly given 1 choice. The black Angus steak. If you're trying to image yourself as a fancy restaurant, this is a horrible start. Service was soso...it took a very long time to get our food though. 20% gratuity on parties which is absurd but hey back to the food. I had the Angus steak as well which turned out OK. I enjoyed all of the vegetable options to eat the steak with as it was very diverse in flavor. Very different. A little too salty at some times. Tried clams from a friend's plate, that was amazing. Overall not exactly worth it for me but could be great for others. Specifically people who like to sit and talk about a lot of pointless things before their food arrives. Decor and ambience was probably the best part about this place.

Paid to have the joke on me. Over one hour wait to be served our two entrees. No appetizer, alcohol or dessert... Just a gigantic bill for two entrees and one italian soda. (this place is very expensive due to the beautiful building that I did enjoy) Others were seated, ordered, had appetizers, ate entrees, had another wine, and left before we got our food. Maybe offer a free refill on the italian soda when the kitchen ruins someones night completely. Im just guessing but I think the snaffu was on purpose by a precious kitchen that didnt like me requesting my lamb served over rice instead of salad. Which i paid $13 extra for. (Thankfully because the saffron pilaf was very tasty, the lamb burnt fingers were pretentiously priced/portioned and tasteless) Id never go back, Valters Osteria by a million miles, much better choice for fine dining italian is my recommend as the service is exceptional A+ at Valters. F for sea salt.

Well, went ~3 years ago when they opened and had a bad time.... Went back after being accused of holding a grudge... What a mistake. The menu is a billion miles long- doubt they do any of it well. Had a braised lamb shank with risotto.... The lamb basically tasted like nothing more then lamb and salt with a clumsy whack of lemon on top... The risotto was not really overcooked but in a massive soup of ???. The rice itself wasn't way over, but where did all this liquid come from? A large soup of un-flavorful liquid from the braze poured over top just added salt. Very, very poor for an Italian braised dish. Tally was $160 for 2... I'd give the food 2 out of 10. Other points from the atmosphere, but I live right here so I can get the same thing on my deck. I would say I've had better Italian in places with far lower pretentions and prices. I don't care about price really, but this place is way out of it's own league. Even the crappy, laminated menus screamed low end diner. Guess we'll see how they're doing in another 5 years or so. Ugh.

One of the best Italian places I have tried in salt lake. The food and ambience are wonderful! Lots of outdoor seating and outdoor lounging areas. Beautifully decorated, makes you feel like your at a mini Italian villa. Their pizza, bruschetta, fresh lemonade, and anything gnocchi is awesome. They have a very extensive menu and wine/drink list so you will defiantly find something for everyone! Plates are a little on the high side at $15+ but totally worth it!

We had a reasonably good meal here but bill time was when the issues started. I had ordered the Cobb salad but asked if the chicken could be substituted with salmon. I even told our server it was fine to charge me more. The Cobb salad with chicken was 16.95 and instead I got charged for a shrimp Cobb salad 18.95 plus a plain grilled salmon 20.95. I got an upcharge but $40 and charged for 2 entrees? The salmon special was 26.95 btw. Anyway then our waiter got another waiter "Sergio" who said he was the manager and he couldn't do anything for us. On top of that I said you charged me for a shrimp Cobb which was $2 more than the chicken Cobb and I didn't get any shrimp. He actually said he could bring it. Which made me even angrier. Done w meal! Hmmm... How about take off $10-15 of the overcharge. 20 minutes later worth of haggling and asking for someone else to help us they finally took off the Cobb charge. Food was 3.5 stars. Service was -10 stars. Too bad yelp has a minimum of 1 star. The whole thing turned a nice meal out with friends into a miserable experience.

I gave this place 3 stars because I love the patio dining and the whole patio setup is beautiful. The food was a bit bland in my opinion. The salad I got was beautiful but did lack taste. The minestrone soup was good but too salty and I usually add salt to my food. In this case I did not need to add salt. The bread stick in my withy soup was also too salty. The pasta had good flavor but it was undercooked. The coffee American was awesome. I hope they improve in these issues the next time I go there

Fantastic! Perfect pacing. Enjoyable staff. Great, creative food with local produce and meats. It is pricey but we have not had even one disappointing bite every time we've gone. Quickly becoming one of our favorites!

I went to Sea Salt on a date and had a pretty good meal. It is a little bit nicer and more expensive for a usual stop BUT with that said ... My food was good. It was a smaller portion, but it was well flavored. The service was exceptional. My drink was always full, but the waiter didn't bother us either. The ambiance is VERY nice. In terms of a semi-special occasion or a date spot you're trying to impress - this place is a good pick for a really solid meal. If you're looking more for the best value for Italian food in SLC, or a regular stop, it doesn't top my list.

Love the ambience and the service, very attentive and never overbearing. The food was good, and more saucy than what I'm used to causing me to wish that there was some bread to mop it all up. Don't let the huge menu intimidate you, just more reason to come back. I can't wait to try the pizza.

People that think this place is too expensive need to explore culinary alternatives to Applebees or Olive Garden to which they are clearly accustomed. The food is delightful, the service sharp, the ambiance relaxing. The only negative comments we understand is regarding the menu, it is a bit fragmented and difficult to manage... and if that's the worst part of a dining experience, well that should be considered a solid find. Mitch was our server, we dined on a Monday, split the buffalo insalata caprese, hearts of romaine, cucumber appetizer, caprese pizza, and nice Italian wine. We dine out frequently and this place has all the pillars of fine dining in a not-to-pretentious atmosphere. Five stars.

Reading through the reviews for Sea Salt I'm struck by the level of negativity. Many of the objections to Sea Salt revolve around the prices, which, granted are probably a bit above average for similar fare in the Salt Lake valley. IMHO, price should not play such a strong roll in determining a restaurant's rating...and this place is worth a little splurge once in a while. We tried three different things on the menu during our recent visit. The first was a seasonal preparation, zucchini blossoms that were stuffed with a ricotta cheese mixture, lightly breaded and flash fried. This was a truly exceptional appetizer and set the mood for the next two items. Our gnocchi dish, which included stewed Campari tomatoes (a favorite), was quite good. The gnocchi were tender and flavorful. A thumbs up for this item. Finally, we ordered the pizza with fennel sausage, swiss chard, roasted onions (a mix of pearl onions, leaks, etc.) and garden tomatoes, all on a wood-fired thin crust dough. The pizza was done to perfection. The home-made fennel sausage was delicately spiced and really stood out, while the fresh chard was an unusual twist. We also really loved the roasted onion mixture on this pizza, truly an original assemblage of flavors here. The atmosphere at Sea Salt is comfortable, especially in the summer. There is a lovely patio on both the south and west sides of the restaurant, surrounded by hanging vegetation. The inside of the restaurant is elegant and spacious. The wait staff is ample and eager to serve. I have no complaints about our experience. We will definitely be returning!

Seeing how we live right in the neighborhood, I have driven by Sea Salt restaurant many times, especially when I go shopping at the Harmons market directly across the street. When my wife and I were deciding where to go to dinner the other night, we decided that we would try Sea Salt for the very first time. We are so glad that we did! What a treat! Everything about this little place is pure class! It's a perfect location, it is very bright and wide open inside, and the ample patio space is really a pleasure, especially when the weather is so nice! I hate to use such a tired cliche, but I was completely blown away by the menu! I thought I had died and gone to Master Chef heaven! What a wide variety of treats they have, and what a wide array of fancy wines and drinks to go along with it. The chefs do an amazing job preparing some of the most complex Italian dishes that I have ever seen on one menu! And that same menu tells me that the restaurant uses many items from local growers, which is always a good thing in my book! Seeing how it is so close to our house, I can guarantee that we will now become regulars! Well done!

Many reviews seems to focus on the price of the food, but I think a lot of people in this area tend to expect huge portions. This restaurant is excellent mainly because they have realistic portions of an Italian restaurant. In Italy you will rarely find pasta dishes bigger than the ones you get here. I always get the pizza, as it is excellent and has been on the menu since their last restaurant and is always a favorite. The meatballs are delicious and authentic as well. The only downside here is that it can sometimes take a bit of time to eat there, as they are often busy and like to give their customers the true fine dining experience where they don't rush you out so they can turn tables. I would recommend going here for either lunch or dinner, as the service is excellent at both times!

Friendly staff. I really enjoyed the fancy outdoor seating. I got the Olive Barrel pizza and enjoyed the prosciutto with apples and lots of greens. However, the crust was so hard and literally inedible. I couldn't cut through the crust with my knife. I have braces and was afraid I would break my teeth.

What the?? This place is gorgeous inside, but possibly the most overpriced mediocre cuisine in the state. $150 for dinner for 2 and still hungry after!! Fighting crime makes me hungry... But for $150 we should feel satisfied. Not at all. The gnocchi was under done, small serving, and overpriced. The pizza soggy. I will never return. Sad, because it's a convenient location.

Worst service ever this place can't handle a table for two let alone a table for 8. The wait staff is extremely inexperienced all the way around. The food is better than many Italian places, but it's not great or authentic and when you have to wait an average of 90 minutes or more for your appetizer I would skip it. I've gone multiple times and have always been disappointed with the service. We've had reservations and not been seated for 45 minutes. Poor restaurant management will put them out of business soon.

Other than ensuring that we were adequately hydrated our experience at sea salt was appaling. We were brought to our seats at 645 and were not served our entrees until 815. There was absolutely no communication between the kitchen and the front of the house. Despite the server claiming that they were just applying "finishing touches" to our meal, we had to wait another 30 minutes at which point we told the hostess that we would leave unless served in the next 5 minutes...10 minutes later we were served meals that had been dying under the heat lamps. This included undercooked lamb on a measley salad, hard and rubbery gnocchi, and "seasonal wild fish" that was so wild it still had bones. Needless to say we will not be returning to Sea Salt.

I love this place! Nothing more authentic Italian and delicious!!!! Great service! Great food. Great ambiance. Great drinks, even great inventive drinks. Thank you Eric DuBonis for bringing Salt Lake City a great restaurant to dine at. Can't wait to return!

A lovely spot for a leisurely meal on the terrace. Unusually large selection of specials ...we had a gnocchi with various greens (grasp that nettle) and a lamb sausage / polenta from the regular menu. Both had quality ingredients and skillful preparation. Reasonable, that is moderate, portion size. Interesting Meyer lemon pine nut ricotta cake made a smooth and not too sweet ending. Our original visit to this place several years ago had a rigid rules based service that left us cold but last two times servers have been professional and hospitable.

DO NOT COME HERE WITH GROUPS OVER 6. Food was good, but extremely overpriced. I understand the concept, but feel that it's executed poorly. If you have a larger group, you have to be there before 6 and they absolutely refuse to split checks appropriately for parties over seven people. The most they will do is divide the check evenly among everyone. Group dinners never end up with everyone paying fairly, so why make it worse? Especially when your menu items have such a large discrepancy in price. I went to a group dinner here, and had to come late, as they would only seat a larger group before 6. I assume the servers were happy with their automatic 20% and decided to take almost an hour to even take our food order, leaving us eating well after everyone else had finished. (We ordered an appetizer that didn't have to be cooked, a few drinks and paid double for what we had ordered). I imagine they have the same, or similar, POS system as every other restaurant in the world, how is it they can't split checks properly? Also, one member from our group saw our waiter doing the math on his phone. So, it seems like a choice made by the owner, not a limitation of their system. I think this place is trying to be more than it really is. There are other restaurants in this city with locally sourced food. Go to one of those. Don't waste two hours waiting for service at Sea Salt.

Overpriced! Unauthentic! And I mentioned overpriced! The food is far from fresh! Yes this place does suck.

Similar experience to other reviewers. We had a party of 12, and our meal was plated two hours after we ordered. Plenty of water but more than an hour before the server thought to refill my wife's coke for the first time. Ambience is great, it's a quaint corner and a nice atmosphere. Food was good and unique for the area, but wasn't worth the wait. We passed on dessert because by that point we were pushing four hours and just couldn't handle it anymore. I'd like to be able to recommend this restaurant to others, but if my friends asked I'd tell them it may be worth it once but we won't be going back. Figure out how to serve us in under two hours and we may reconsider.

I love this place, and have eaten here so many times that I've lost count. The food is awesome; you can tell they're using local ingredients, etc. Some of it is salty, but I think that's more about the cuisine itself. It's a little pricey, but the atmosphere & experience somewhat justifies it.The ambiance, both inside & outside on the patio, is fantastic-- pretty much perfect. I've always had great service from the wait-staff, although the hostesses occasionally have a bit of a bad attitude. ["Hey, you're in high school(or a freshman at the U), lose the act..."]

Finally made it to Sea Salt to see what everyone loved and didn't love about this place. All but one of us was very happy with what we ordered. Out of the 6 entrées 5 were great and one was just so so. The apps we had (roman cauliflower and some crostini with mushrooms) were great! We ordered one of every dessert, all were very good. 2 star rating due solely to the terrible waitress we had. She was curt, rude and indifferent to us the whole time. When a friend asked her about a dish that looked good but didn't like the eggplant the response was "well then don't order it." Really?! I ordered an Italian soda and after one taste realized it tasted like medicine. When I told the waitress she looked at me like it wasn't her problem. She blamed the flavor of the fruit ones on them being organic and made ZERO attempt to care that I would like a different one. The kicker was when I said "well, it tastes like cough syrup so I don't like it and wouldn't drink it" and her response was, with annoyance and apathy, "well it's a kids drink so...." After that she never refilled my water though she filled the rest of the tables drinks. AND she charged a friend for a $15 margarita when he ordered an $8 one. I waited tables for 10 years and know you just don't treat your customers like that.

Very odd to recommend this place, in conversation, to then search and see such bad reviews. I sat at the bar, ate a fantastic meal, enjoyed the regulars and a great conversation with the staff. Food, service, drinks and gelato were all fantastic. Highly recommend and will return.

These people do not understand the concept of a reservation or service. 8:00 res does not mean I want to sit at 8:30. Turnover among staff seems to be frequent and high. What drives that? The food is usually good and Chef Maria, is very good at what she does. Overall not worth the experience. Some bright spots but there are better restaurants in SLC that actually appear to want my business and their food is just as good if not better.

  • Jessica M.

I was lucky enough to overhear a conversation between our waiter and another staff member at lunch today. Direct quotes- "Women want what they want when they want it." "Yeah, I hate it when they say they're as good as men" "I know right" "I mean, it's a man's world, you know?" It went on and on with varying levels of disgust and disdain for half the population who happened to make up about 90% of the diners at the time. My husband and I had a hearty laugh with a few eye-rolls. But there are many people who would have been outright offended, hurt, and left never to return. I really loved the olives and the beet salad though. They were very polite while serving us. Had they had their conversation quieter this would have been a 5 star review. Aside from the content of the conversation, loud talkers are the worst. But it was a lovely space with delicious food.

This was my first time to Sea Salt...it was such a cool atmosphere...didn't feel like I was in Utah anymore. I had the fish of the day with some oysters and it was awesome. The waiter was super mellow and helpful in true sugar house fashion. My friend got the margarita pizza and I'll definitely go back to try it. Reminded me of pizza I had in Italy. Well played Sea Salt...well played...

I loved the decor and space if this place. The patio areas are beautiful, the interior spacious and clean- but it was very over priced for what it was. In a warm summer evening, the interior was too warm- our party was sweating the entire time and had to ask our waiter if there was air conditioning! Food was good- but nothing remarkable. For the money I would recommend a handful of other great places to eat in SLC

I was very underwhelmed with this restaurant. The atmosphere was great. The service was standard. The food? Not good, in my opinion. We started with the bruschetta which was pretty good. Then we had a beet salad which was super salty. I had the gnocchi and it was not good at all. It was oily and overcooked and also very salty. I don't mind paying a lot for good food, but I was definitely disappointed. It was our first time there though so we will try it again before making a final judgement.

Was in town for the AP Reading at the convention center and was taken to Sea Salt by my family. This is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. When you first come into the restaurant, you think, "wow, this is fancy". The feel is very clean, crisp, almost beachy. The ambience is really nice. The kitchen is open, the patio surrounds the restaurant, so all the doors were open and it was really just lovely. We had terrific service from Jordan. She was very professional, knowledgeable and seemed organized and efficient. She was also friendly. We had a great table near the kitchen, and it was nice to see the dishes come up and go out. The menu is quite extensive, and being from California was surprised the prices were so reasonable. For the look and style of the restaurant, I would have expected to pay much more. Unfortunately, the menu is a bit overwhelming. There are so many choices it makes it hard to get through. I almost think they should pare it down a bit. I ordered the five cheese gnocchi, and Jordan suggested I add italian sausage, which was a terrific idea. We started with margherita pizza as an app, and also had some focaccia bread. We brought our own bottle of wine and the corkage fee was really reasonable. I think it was $6. I'm giving this restaurant four instead of five stars, because I brought some friends back a few days later because I enjoyed it so much and my experience was not quite as good. Had I written this review after the first time, I would have given five stars for sure. But the second time the service was pretty bad. They seemed very disorganized, the host and hostess did not seem to know where to seat people and we had to wait a few minutes, even though we had reservations. Our server was very nice, but obviously overwhelmed. I ordered a different appetizer this time, the grilled mozzarella over mushrooms. We ordered two and one was obviously burnt and over-cooked, to the point that we weren't sure that they were in fact the same dish. We asked and the server said "nope, they are totally the same". We eventually had to send it back, it was inedible. However, we did really enjoy the replacement. The food is really good. I ordered the same meal as before and thoroughly enjoyed it. It became really hot while we were there the second time. It was raining, which is uncharacteristic for SLC, so all the doors were closed. We were at the same table, near the kitchen and it was roasting hot. We asked for some air, and they opened the door, but when a couple was seated next to the open door, they were cold so closed the door. At this point they came to our table and said, "we turned on the air, so it should cool down soon". I know it was raining, but it's SLC in June, you'd think they would have the air going in general. Yes, there were bumps in service on the second visit, but I still highly recommend this restaurant. The food is truly delicious and very affordable. If you want excellent service, ask for Jordan!

The server wouldn't split our check and I mean flat out refused after basically begging them. I ended up paying $40 for a $16 pizza. Service was Lamo-O

Sea Salt has won awards so the 4 of us were excited to try it. I couldn't give it 3 stars because I don't think it's "A-OK" and instead give it 2 stars because "Meh. I've experienced better." We had reservations but still waited over 30 minutes to be seated even though there were empty tables because, "We are waiting for clean silverware." The waiter kept referring to the dishes as "tasty" or "delicate," nothing more than that by way of recommendations. When asked what he'd recommend for pasta he said the mussels. Um, mussels aren't pasta, they're shellfish. The 2 people who sat down and ordered after us got their meal AND finished it before we got ours. A lot of reviews point out the long wait time, so don't come too hungry. APPETIZERS: Nonna Maria's Meatballs & Tomato Sauce was flavorful, tender, and appropriately textured (not dry, not too juicy). TRY IT. Romanesco Gratinato appetizer was cheesily delicious and surprised us. GET IT. ENTREES: Gnocci Gratinati alla Bolognese con Funghi was lackluster in taste and presentation. It was more like a soup that had plain, unflavored gnocci plopped in at the end. Crusted pork chops (the special that wasn't so much, and we ordered two) were overcooked, dry, and lacked flavor or crust. The polenta alongside tasted like nothing. Spaghetti Carbonara (recommended by the waiter as "tasty" after we said that's something we can make ourselves) didn't taste better than us making it at home, which is a point of going out to eat. We don't think this restaurant was worth the price we paid (about $85/couple) for the painfully slow service and mediocre food. A friend of mine was there at the same time and loved her meal, so I guess it's a hit or miss place that I'd rather avoid. I would choose Copper Onion or Communal for their better food and customer service at that price point.

One word. Pretentious. You walk in and it just feels very pretentious. I don't know why, other fancy places I don't feel that way, maybe it's a bias against Italian restaurants because they're just overpriced pasta? Service was good, prices were way too expensive, especially for what you get. I got the chicken panini which was much too salty. In fact everything was too salty. My greens, the sandwich, everything. Sister got margerita pizza, which was decent, but not worth $11. And it was sopping in olive oil. Literally pick up a slice and let it drain off for 5 minutes before you eat it. Mom got a salad with chicken added, wayyyy too expensive to add chicken on top of the already overpriced salad. Maybe I just don't have a "refined" pallet for Italian, but damn if there was diabetes for salt, I'd have it eating here.

I have been to Sea Salt a number of times. My three star rating was determined from he following experiences, but I wish there were a 3.5 star rating... Every dish I have had there is typically above average. I've enjoyed a variety of things, from their various cheese samplings (with honey and fig) to 3 unique pizzas to the pasta basics of pomodoro and carbonara. All good. I do not think you will go wrong with your choice. I echo some of the other reviewers stating that the prices are high for what you get. These dishes are not life-altering, they are simply good and above average. With that said, I go back here and continue to pay. But the reason I go back, is that so many other things are done well. If you have read some of my other reviews, I do not simply base my review on food and service. Which a TON of people do and rightfully so. But I don't. I consider dining to be about the experience, and the people you are there with. And as far as the experience goes, I have had nothing but 4 star experiences here. All the waiters/waitresses I have interacted with have been knowledgeable about the menu, specials, drinks and super friendly. I have had one experience with a hostess that was less than ideal. Pretty typical negative experience. I called Sea Salt and was told there was a 20 minute wait, but they would put my name on the list as a call ahead, since I was already in the car with my party heading over. When I get there, the hostess looks at me like I was an idiot, and just said "we never do that" and proceeded to tell me I will have to wait the (now) 30 minute wait. Great. If a mistake was made, no big deal. But for her to act like I was an a$$hat just making $hit up was inconsiderate. That aside, I enjoyed some delicious drinks on their patio on a BEAUTIFUL sunny evening and eventually got seated outside (after only 15 minutes, not 30). So this potentially super negative experience just got turned into a decent one. Kudos for that. Anyway, to sum up, the ambiance is fantastic especially in summer, the food is above average, the wait staff is knowledgeable, and you should try it out to come to your own conclusion.

Worst experience ever. Food was terrible and very overpriced. The service was the worst part. We were seated right in the sun and there were only four other people in the restaurant. We asked to be moved and it took them 15 minutes to decide where to move us. One of the people in our party got a migrane from siting with the sun glaring right in their face. Will never go back.

I am a connoisseur of good food. Sea Salt is beautiful and the service superb... until you kindly mention a problem. My gnocchi was dry and the chicken overcooked. When I kindly shared this with my server he told me the dish was prepared correctly and implied that I misunderstood its preparation process. He then dismissed me and my guest for the rest of our meal. I was dissatisfied enough to call the manager who conveniently never returned my call. I am confident Sea Salt uses only the finest ingredients and is typically excellent but my experience was exceptionally poor.

I was in town visiting friends and they recommended we try this new restaurant, Sea Salt. We got there just after 6 pm - a few other tables had been seated but overall it was just starting to get going. It was super hot outside so we opted to sit inside. I don't know which was worse -- inside or out. It was hot inside too. When we talked to the RUDE hostess about it she totally ignored our requests to turn up the AC. The food is trying to be innovative and different - I'll give it 3 stars for trying to be something new. But man -- it should be called OLIVE OIL AND SEA SALT. My food was very oily, so oily in fact that the next day I felt sick just looking at the olive oil in the kitchen. UGH. I love white asparagus and ordered that for an appetizer. I was told that it was just some olive oil and sea salt. Instead there was a TON of chives on it as well. I wouldn't mind a bit of chives, but there were so many that it completely overwhelmed the asparagus so you couldn't taste it at all. And again - too oily for my taste. Between the 6 of us we got soups and salads and then split a few pizzas. They were fine, but they were nothing to write home about. The cold zucchini soup sounded promising, but again too much oil. The pizzas were nice - but I've had better in that dept as well. Granted we had some toppings that were salty too -- but then don't add more salt to the pizza. And what is the deal with NOT cutting the pizzas?? Annoying. One friend had been there before and said she'd rather not have dessert there again. So we skipped dessert. I guess the chocolate cake with olive oil didn't go over too well with her group last time. She had nothing nice to say about any of the desserts. So while I can't really rate this for trying them on my own -- my own friend didn't like them enough that we totally skipped out on dessert. The hostess really does need to learn to be nice. We are here to support a local business... stop being so damn snooty! The servers were all wonderful though. So thank you for that. All in all - I do think that over time this restaurant could really be something wonderful. I love the look of the restaurant and the name of the restaurant, but hope that they stop adding so much salt and olive oil to EVERY DISH. I mean, come on now -- moderation, please.

Wow. Never will I ever come here again, or recommend anyone to this restaurant. My family and I decided to spend our New Years Eve dinner here with some close family friends. They had suggested Sea Salt, and after reading reviews on yelp and urban spoon I was a little turned off from the restaurant but decided to give it a try. The food was decent and the service wasn't as bad as I had been informed. So our server, Hannah, asks if we'd like anything else after dinner, dessert, coffee or anything. We ordered coffee and had about half a cup left, when Hannah informed us that there was another reservation on our table at 8:00 and that it was 10 to eight. We were not lingering or doing anything inappropriate. We had all ordered full meals and were just enjoying our first sips of coffee. If left alone we would've been gone within a few minutes. Hannah then returned to our table again and rudely told us the next party was starting to arrive, um there were 2 people standing by the door and not to mention a 2 top and a 4 top, empty, next to us that could've been easily made into a 6 top for the party. I have been in the industry for a long time and I was completely floored to have been so mistreated. It was beyond rude, not to mention unexceptable behavior. I will never be back and I hope whoever is able to read this doesn't make the mistake I did.

So I've now given this place a fair shot, 3-4 times. Once for lunch and the rest for dins. Spectacular venue, inside is classically designed down to every detail. However, because of all the hard surfaces, its quite loud when its crowded. The outdoor patio is great, complete with shade and heaters. The food is simple, but very well done. The buffalo mozzeralla app. is to die for, salty and delicious. I know they are attempting to go as local as they can, which I love. The gnochi and vegi pizza are great. Twice though, I've had slow as mud service. The place is very new, so I'll let it slide. Hopefully the owner gets a hang on his too 'hipster' servers and hostesses. The prices are great for what you get. I've only had dessert there once, but I wasn't that impressed with the chocolate on the menu, could be improved! All in all, great spot, I'm sure I'll frequent often, specially once the service is on par with the like of Trio.

I really wanted to like this place; my parent's suggested it and they (used to) have good taste. The place is beautiful inside and out. A nice change from the darker, more crowded Italian restaurants in Salt Lake City. The menu 'looks' great, with all the standard Italian fare, and even a few items which you don't see in other places in SLC (Spaghetti w/ Bottarga). The staff was pretty good also. The only bad thing about the place? the food. very inconsistent. we had a large party and ordered several pastas - Bottarga was ok (too much parsley), the linguine and clams was an average tomato sauce with clams thrown in (the linguine was slimy, way overcooked), the carbonara had way too much egg and not a lot of anything else. The pizzas were average. I probably should have stopped trusting my parents restaurant suggestions when their favorite place became Chuck-a-Rama.

I arrived on time for our reservation. The rest of the party had called to say they'd be 5-10 minutes late. They refused to seat me but made me wait til half the party had arrived. The restaurant was nearly empty with only 2 other tables seated. Appalling service. The hostess said it was standard policy. No attempt to make me feel comfortable or bend the "rules".. Once seated, the service was better than usual and the food was very good. But it's another example of their not trying to please the customer.

Great food, service and drinks. Patio in the summer is awesome. Also have a nice bar and some couches that are fun to eat at inside. The staff is awesome they start to remember your orders after your second or third visit. Always a great experience in the last 50-60 times I've eaten there. They really care and it shows!

The restaurant is beautiful.... the patio is beautiful.... the food is really good with a good wine list. Fourth time I've been there and I'll go again. Very classy place. Worth the price.... stop whining people. If you want cheap food, go to McDonalds!

First time we ate here, we really liked it. However this time ( july 10th 2014) was just not a pleasant experience. We came with my in laws, and walked away so disappointed. The wait on a waiter was incredibly long, waiter was not helpful with the menu. Gave us 2 menus for 4 of us. Once we ordered, we asked if they had any juice since we wanted something other then water for my daughter. The waiter kept saying over and over that he only has orange juice, freshly squeezed but that it is $5. And that he doesn't want to charge us that much so maybe we should stick with water. Huh?? Wow. He then came back a few more times and said the same thing. So i finally told him to forget the juice. When the food was served, my in laws got their plates first, then about 10 min later i got mine, and my husband waited for over 30 min after my food was out. Needless to say my in laws finished their food, before my husband even got his. The restaurant was NOT busy. There were 2 other tables, but other then that it was empty. Finally we had to go and look for our waiter in order to pay. Another thing that really bothered me is that i have an accent ( my in laws and hubby don't) and i was spoken to in a different tone and manner then they were. And food was ok at best this time!!! :( what a shame, its such a pretty place!

I ate dinner at the bar but was able to pick from the main menu. My food was great! Also the bar tender hooked me up with some crazy caffeine concoction, hit the spot after a crazy day and getting ready to go out. Also, the hostess there was soo sweet and cute, l think her name was Lizz. I recommend for the out of state traveler.

First (and last) visit to Sea Salt tonight. Here's the highlights: waited 10 minutes for my first drink order. Waited 35 minutes for appetizer. Waited 65 minutes for entrée. I ordered the baked chicken breast in a variety of seasonings. When it finally arrived it was a malnourished chicken LEG. It was dry VERY dry. I pointed this out to the waiter. He said "oh no, I'm sure it isn't." "That couldn't happen, I couldn't imagine how that would happen." Well I can, it was cooked too long. His response"What would you like me to do, it will take at least 30 minutes to prepare another one and you'll still have to pay for this one." REALLY????!!! Previous reviews have identified this restaurant as pretentious. It is. One would hope it earned the right to be so. It hasn't. There are so many good restaurants in this valley Why would I or anyone I know go to this restaurant? We won't. Also, why isn't there the option of rating this restaurant as a negative star? This restaurant has certainly earned such a reward in this writer's opinion. Ed T.W. Daniels

This has become our new date night place. Living in Heber City, it is a bit of a hike but totally worth it! Both my boyfriend and I are vegetarians and have never had any issues with finding things on the menu. The pizzas are amazing and you can create pretty much any combo if toppings you would like. The desserts are simply but perfect: gelato, delicates cakes and espresso, perfect! The service is pretty good but can be a bit slow if they are busy. Bur the atmosphere helps because you don't mind just hanging out and enjoying the place.

This restaurant disappointed us on every level. The menu is hard to read and too cumbersome. We sat outside and 10min in realized they have no shade protection for the setting sun. It got very hot, we asked for ice water and instead of a glass of ice water we were given a small glass with ice and a spoon. Our appetizer came out quickly but after we finished that we waited 30+ min for our entrees. When they arrived my 17$ pasta was the size if a small soup bowl and had 3 small pieces of chicken mixed with soggy gnocchi. We have a 3 year old and 6 year old and asked the advice of size of the kids entrees he told us they were pretty small so we should order one for each. That was a joke, the kids pasta has 2 huge meatballs size of tennis balls in addition to a large amount a noodles and could easily have been shared between two small children. When the sun was irritating my 3 year old we rearranged the table and still no one offered to bring us cold water or to help with shade. We chose Sea Salt to celebrate my husbands birthday. Unfortunately, we left feeling like we had waisted our night and our $90. I have no problem paying for good food, we learned that Sea Salt is not the place for that.

Pretty stellar restaurant. The food was authentic and delicious: a little pricey, but worth it. The thing I liked most about the restaurant was the atmosphere: really bright and clean, different than most Italian places. If you go, be sure to make a reservation. Our group of 3 had to sit at the bar when we went at 8pm on a Monday night.

This place was so rude I was shocked, especially for such a "nice" and expensive place. We had called many other restaurants and this was one place that said they could seat us right away. They made us wait 20 minutes when there were at least 10 tables open. When we complained about the wait, the snobbish 23 year old waitress said it was policy. We spoke to the manager who was a 25 year old gum chewing snobby girl who was no help. I would not waste your time dealing with snobby. Ended up going to a much nicer restaurant near by (The Paris Bistro)

All the food was over salted. The service was slow. The gnocchi (if you could even call it that) were awful - dry, too big, no flavor, and mealy. My dish was the Gnocchi Fritto, which was pan fried so maybe why it was mealy, but other non-fried gnocchi dishes were the same. My main course was over salted and still bland (is that even possible?). I ate most of it because I was hungry, but had to ask for plain marinara sauce (also not great) to make it palatable. Never going back. The only reason I gave it two stars was the ambiance, the one redeeming factor.

    (2)
  • Joshua B.

So what to say about sea salt! The salt has lost it's flavor and should be thrown back into the great salt lake in hopes of finding redemption for itself. The price was way too much for a less then average food. I don't understand why anyone should have to pay so much for so little quality. The wait staff was less then stellar and didn't seem to comprehend their own menu. When we asked for recommendation we heard mostly uhm's and well's. Without a wait staff being able to help direct their clients they are going to be in a world of hurt.

Love the ambiance, our waiter was from Rome and you can't get better than Italian food. I'm giving this place 3 stars because it was decent, but I've had better. The pastas were a little bland and just ok.

Oh Sea Salt, I really want to love you, but I just can't. I have been a jilted lover one too many times. I have eaten here approximately 8 times since it opened a few years ago. I live in the neighborhood, and it is a convenient walk from home. The restaurant is in a beautiful building, and has a very nice patio for nice weather. The doors open wide in the dining room to allow for a semi alfresco dining experience. The hostesses have always been good; promptly attentive, friendly, and helpful. The wait is usually short while they set up a table. The food is very good. The menu is a bit of a chore as it arrives in 3 or 4 pieces: one regular menu, one with specials, and one or 2 more with drinks and a wine list. The descriptions are written in Italian, and I usually have to ask about many of the ingredients that I can't identify (that's probably my own food ignorance, not Sea Salt's problem). Everything I have sampled here has been terrific. Here is my problem: the service is terrible. Terrible. The wait staff is usually helpful and patient with explaining the menu, and answering questions, but after that they can't seem to deliver the product. With the exception of one time, we have had a terribly long wait for anything to come to the table. It has consistently taken 20 minutes before drinks arrive (water comes right away, and keeps coming, and coming). It has never been less than an hour before the appetizers arrived. The entrees take an additional 30 minutes to arrive. This is a consistent problem over my several visits, and the few years that Sea Salt has been open. The food draws me back, and every time I return, I hope the wait staff will have gotten it together. It hasn't happened yet. I am not sure if the problem is in a slow kitchen, or with a disorganized wait staff. Case in point: during dinner tonight, our waiter took our order for drinks, appetizers, a salad, and entrees. He wrote it down, and then we waited, and waited. About 45 minutes later a plate of 5 small bread slices was delivered with an apology. There had been a mixup, and it was going to take a little while longer. 30 minutes later, the entrees arrived, but no appetizers or salads. When we inquired, the waiter told us that the other parts of our order must have gotten lost in the "mixup". That was all the explanation we got. The non-delivered food was not charged on the bill, but I would have liked a better explanation. Heck, a little apology wouldn't hurt either, but we didn't really get that. Well, that was the last straw. I am not going back. I am taking my stuff and moving out! I have given Sea Salt enough tries to make it up to me, but with terrible service through many meals over the past 2 years, I cannot keep going back. I am just too pissed off at the place, and can no longer enjoy it. The wait staff needs to find their way out of the weeds. Good luck if you go.

Loved all the locally sourced ingredients! And the taste reflected the freshness. Big beautiful piece of basil on the pasta dishes. Wonderful arugula. Delicious eggplant in the gnocci. Lots of vegetarian options. Wish they had whole grain options (pasta and bread). The menu was a bit overwhelming. I wish they would pair it down a bit. Or else add some pages or change the font or something. The formatting wasn't quite right. In response to another yelper's review, there was no communal dining that I witnessed during our dinner.

I've been to Sea Salt twice and have enjoyed it both times. I'm dropping a star because the prices are somewhat high for the portions. That said, the pasta tastes fresh, the pizza is delicious, and their drinks menu is extensive, impressive, and quite tasty! I've tried several of their appetizers and have enjoyed them all: arancini di riso (superb!), fried squash blossoms (seasonal, tasty), the olives (standard/good), and a few others that I can't recall. The space is lovely, white, clean. The service has been good and they were accommodating when I came with a large group (we had reservations).

We had a chef friend from San Francisco in town for Sundance and on his way back from Park City to catch a flight home, we met for dinner. He suggested Forage, my boyfriend countered back with Soup Kitchen (seriously??). I got on yelp and found Sea Salt, which seemed like a good compromise, although definitely more in the vein of Forage than Soup Kitchen! We walked in around 6:30 to a pretty empty restaurant, which was slightly alarming, but by the time we left at 8:15, it was hopping! It is a very white inside, without being stark, cold and bright. It felt warm and intimate. We were seated at a table that had a banquette on one side and two chairs on the other side. Food is incredible here, just incredible! We ordered a couple of starters for the table first. The Arancini di Riso is amazing!! Fried balls of saffron rice with buffalo cheese and mushrooms inside, served on a bed of arugula. I have been daydreaming about these all week! We also picked the special, Cipolline e Barbabietolain Agrodolce con Burrata- grilled onions and beets with a really wonderful sweet balsamic reduction served with cheese and bread. We were all fighting for the last pieces of onion and practically licked the plate clean of the balsamic! We chose the small olive dish as well. These olives were unlike anything I've ever had before. They almost tasted like avocado- very rich, creamy and not salty. The olive oil they came in was also very very good- we asked for a basket of bread to dip in it. I ordered the Gnocchi alla Norma- omigoodness!!!! I am not embarrassed to admit that I ate everything on my plate, even after all the appetizers. Just perfect!!! There was also a Spaghetti alla Puttanesca, a Grilled Wild Scottish Salmon and a Salsiccia di Maiale con Fagioli all' Uccelletto at the table Everyone was really happy with what they'd ordered- once the entrees arrived, we barely talked! We finished with melon sorbetto, pannacotta and tiramisu- nothing disappointed! Service by Kristi was terrific! She was extremely pleasant and truly seemed like she wanted to be there. She had good recommendations when we asked and didn't wince at our horrible Italian pronounciation (go look at the menu online- when it's your turn to order, I'm guessing you'll be pointing too!). Very professional. The ONLY negative thing I could say is that the hostess was very unpleasant and did not want to help. When we walked in to be seated, she was texting and could barely put the phone down to show us to our table. Later on, when we asked for a wine menu from her (we were seated very close the hostess station and our server was no where in sight), she audibly sighed and rolled her eyes. Once our food came, someone in our party asked for salt and was given insane amounts of attitude by this hostess, who wordlessly banged the ramekin down on our table. Not going to ruin anyone's night, but lose to 'tude, sister.

Given this place 2 chances and we feel like it's just too much $ for the mediocre quality of food. They do have a couple of yummy cocktails, though. In the future, if we're going to spend $100 on an Italian dinner for 2, we'll go to Fresco.

We have eaten here twice now. Both times the place was not very busy. (Go early didn't need a reservation either time). Food and service was great. Make sure you have plenty of time to spend, they make everything when you order it serving sizes are just right, the pizzas are big enough to share. Menu is constantly changing reflecting season fruits and vegetables as well as locally grown meat.

amazing, elegant atmosphere. great wine selection, knowledgeable wait staff, thoughtfully excellent wait staff that timed each course perfectly. the open kitchen adds to the ambiance, wood burning oven in the middle of the kitchen looks amazing. the pizzas are all amazing, and my favorite entree is the lamb shank. delectable!!!

Sea Salt lives up to its name because the food is really salty!!! I have been there 3 times and each time the food has been always memorably salty. The pizzas are really good, so are the marinated olives and the cheese plate. My husband ordered a day special meal: polenta and pork chops. the polenta was really good! I ordered gnocchi but it was very heavy, and not light and fluffy. Because the sauce was too salty I couldn't really enjoy my dish. I had ordered the pasta a la puttanesca before and I wasn't too impressed with it. Next time I go I will order the pasta carbonara because I have trouble making it myself, but aside from that, I think I will only go back for the pizzas. The veggie pizza being my favorite so far. The service has always been great!

Horrible service! Waiter added additional charges to our bill after we signed and left a tip. Called the next day and found out he's done it to other people. Asked for manager and resolution and Was told to leave a comment on the website... Very poor form.

Sea salt, its ridiculous prices and unprofessional owner... Are a joke! Food is average, if that. Drinks are good, as is the patio. That's about it. Side bar: beware of the 5 star reviews, as they are most likely connected to the owner and or staff of this establishment.

Sea Salt is an Italian restaurant with no sign on the front, no phone number that I know of, and absolutely no web presence yet. RUN to this place and have anything on the menu, its amazing. When I visited the second time I had the artichoke pizza (AMAZING!!!) and the hazelnut gelato (YOU HEARD WHAT I SAID) and it was to-die-for. You wont need a reservation because nobody knows it exists yet. It's across the street fro Eggs In The City and has Kelty tent patio covers over its beautiful outdoor dining area. - Your Welcome.

This was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have had in recent memory. Let me first express my distaste for the communal seating idea. If I wanted to dine with someone other than my wife, I would have invited some real friends. But more important than the forced camaraderie, was the poorly executed food. Nothing tasted like its supposed to. Either they failed at trying to be inventive, or they simply do not know how to cook proper Italian food. The Cheese Plate was scant, with slightly burnt pieces of plain baguette, and some unripe fig slices. The dollop of honey on the side was an odd accompaniment. The Pasta e Fagioli was a failure. This classic soup is supposed to consist of well cooked, whole cannellini beans, a smaller pasta such as elbow macaroni or ditalini, some sort of green such as escarole, a rich broth redolent with olive oil, scented with rosemary, and perhaps some pancetta and a dusting of parmesan. This strange concoction was more like a bisque, with nary a whole white bean in sight. There were maybe three large ribbons of papardella pasta, an odd choice for this dish, floating in the puree. The flavor wasn't horrible, but it wasn't at all warmly satisfying like Pasta e Fagioli should be, and it certainly was not authentic. I love gnocchi. I cook it from scratch, and I order it frequently when dining out. I ate a ton of it during my six months studying in Florence. Never had I had such an odd rendition of this dish. It was swimming not in a creamy sauce, but in a very salty broth, with a few scant peas and fava beans for color. Gnocchi soup. It didn't work. Then there was the Vegetarian pizza. The outer crust was thin, wood fired, and very tasty, but the pie itself was poorly constructed. There were about two dozen strips of two to three inch long, under-cooked green onions draped throughout the dish that were not only slimy, but a potential choking hazard. By the time my wife picked them out, there was a half cup pile of them on the plate. The middle of the pie was soggy. We declined a take-home box. Our server was delightful. Attentive, courteous, and understanding, it seemed as though she knew the food sucked, and wanted to make our meal as pleasant as possible in spite of it. We tipped her well. Look, the simple fact is that nothing we ordered tasted good. When my lady winces throughout an entire meal, I know something isn't quite right. Maybe other things on the menu are better. But our experience was a regrettable waste of money. Sorry.

Lovely patio; delicious food. Our party of 3 went on a Wednesday evening. We started with the cucumber and the olives and focaccia. The grilled lamb chops (agnello scottadito) were nicely done; the four cheese gnocchi (added a meatball) was exquisite. My husband had a seafood (shrimp, mussels, calamari) dish with handmade pasta; he loved it. Dessert was panacotta and several gelati --- a favorite was the basil gelato...who knew? The wait staff were attentive and engaging. This was a highlight of our first trip to Salt Lake City.

Yep. 5 stars! This place was fantastic! Yes, the food took a while to come out. Scratch cooking will do that. Just calm down, open a bottle of wine (take your own: Italian wines=$6 corkage!), order a salad and enjoy some nice conversation while your made-to-order food is prepared. We went with a party of 6 on a Friday night. We called and made reservations for the patio, which was fantastic! We ordered 6 different dishes at our table and all were unique and delicious. I wasn't a big fan of the veggie pizza, but that's only because I don't love goat cheese. The margherita pizza was amazing! The crust on both pizzas was perfect. Crispy on the outside and pillowy in the middle. My ravioli was perfect! It had more than enough freshly made marinara sauce and the sirloin of beef filling was wonderful and delicious. There were also a couple of seafood dishes at our table that were really fresh and yummy. The salads were really good and quite large (easily enough for 2-3 people to share as an app). Our server was great. We never had to wait for anything. Even the food didn't take an inordinate amount of time. Maybe 20 minutes? The ONLY complaint I have is that they don't serve bread. One person at our table requested bread. It was very good and showed up on our bill as $0.00. I think they should at least OFFER free bread to every table. It's kind of an Italian food in America expectation. Our entire meal, including two corkage fees, came out to around $50/couple. Well worth it and well worth doing again!!

Experienced Sea Salt for the first time last night and it was amazing! I started with the caprese salad which was unusual and to die for. The tomatoes were almost pickled in a way and the mozzarella was so tender and an entire vine of fresh basil! I then moved on to the sea bass for my main course and savored every bite it was so delicious! I highly recommend both of those dishes. The wine list was a bit confusing and divided up by region with their own slang words instead of by wine type but the server helped us through it and the wine choices were excellent. The only negative thing I would have to say is about the seating. The banquette benches were sliding all over the place and were on rollers and would not stay put. I think new seating is in order and Madison McCord Interiors on Highland Drive can certainly help with that. The dining quarters were a bit cramped and not being able to maneuver with the bench made it especially uncomfortable but the food made up for it! I will definitely be back!

Got take out from here to take to the park. The hostess was nice and offered water while I waited. I ordered the orecchiette and Cobb salad. The salad was packaged nicely with the lettuce and dressing separately to avoid getting soggy. The orecchiette was delicious as ever. I would have given them 4 stars for the take out but they don't have "to go" silverware!!!! WTF?!!!! Really?! How is one suppose to eat salad and pasta with no silverware?

Too bad zero stars isn't an option because this place truly sucks!!! Worst customer service ever. Guess what? You're a server, being courteous and accommodating is your job and you if you try it you might get a good tip!! If you hate your job then quit!!

2nd visit 12.27.10 went to this place this past december with my brother (mark s.) and two friends. what can i say? pretty much what he said. underwhelming service and food after how many months of a soft opening? my first experience was ok. but this experience was less than ok. soggy pizza as my brother stated, we waited for and watched our pizza for quite a while. when it hit the table, the pizza literally had a pool of water from tomatoes that had sat for too long after cooking and from the residual effect of heat lamps. when we asked the server to take it back, she said she'd ask the manager if that was ok. thankfully they took it back, however, before they took it back they explained to us that traditionally these types of pizzas do have a higher water content than most pizzas... well, i'm sure in italy the pizzas aren't swimming in water after sitting under a heat lamp for 10-15 minutes. everything else was just ok...

(grading purely on the food and the difficulty of finding bottarga pasta) Split a delicious black truffle pizza as an appetizer. Then had a well executed plate of bottarga (dried fish egg) pasta. A few points - although they did not advertise fresh pasta, mine was a little before al dente, and some bits were still dry. Also, might just be a peeve, but please do not remove our plates until we are all done eating - we might be picking at each others' food!

Sea Salt is a lovely restaurant buy it broke my heart. My husband took me for my birthday. I didn't like what I ordered -- it looked and tasted bad: a fish dish with risotto. It was like no risotto I have ever made or ever had. The piece of fish was floating in it. There were supposed to be vegetables, but all I could make out in this soup were a couple of beans. I told the waiter and I didn't like my entree and his response was: "well you're going to have to pay for it." I waiter gave me a tiramasou on the house -- I wasn't asked whether that was the desert I wanted. By then I felt my birthday had been ruined. Sea Salt's website is all about how passionate they are about food. But mainly they are passionate about money.

Odd...I want this place to be good. But I get the sense I want it more than they do. I actually enjoyed my lunch here much more than the dinners I have experienced. The food is inconsistent. Service ranges from the delightfully attentive to the I-can't-be-bothered manner of some who were hired because they look good, but don't know the first thing about good table service. If they paid as much attention to the product as they do to the restaurant's appearance, this would be a much better experience.

Fellow Yelper Paula and I decided to check this place out based on some of the not-so-hot reviews from other Yelpers. Given the reputation of the folks behind the restaurant, this didn't seem to make sense, so we decided to see for ourselves on that overly rainy Thursday of last week. Overall, I'd say our lunch was quite pleasant. My first thought upon walking into this place was that it felt a lot more open than a lot of restaurants around town. High ceilings, big windows, lots of light colors. I definitely was not cramped in here. It took awhile to go through the very large menu, but I finally decided on the Spaghetti ala Puttanesca, because I apparently like salty stuff. I don't remember what Paula got, but it involved pasta shells. We were both impressed with our dishes. My pasta was perfectly cooked and all the flavors blended well. Only thing was that though the description of my dish mentioned anchovies, I didn't see any in there. I expect they were in the sauce, because their essence was definitely there. Service was very good. Our server was friendly (and not too freaked out when I lunged for the napkin she was taking off the table because I thought the wind was blowing it away), and our food came out quickly. The guy who frequently came by and wordlessly refilled our water glasses was kind of interesting. So, basically, I'd definitely come back.

I had great expectations for Sea Salt! I had heard wonderful things and I couldn't wait to try it. Upon walking in, my expectations were even higher because of the fantastic atmosphere. The restaurant is bright, open, and has fabulous decor. Once we were seated, I took a closer look and saw dead flies in all of the light fixtures. I shrugged this off, since it didn't play a role in my dinner. As long as there were no flies in there, I was A-OK. It took forever for our server to greet us which was irritating because we had questions about the extensive menu. When she finally did come, she was polite and answered any questions we had.. but when we asked for recommendations she pulled the, "Everything is really good! Depends on what you like!" card. If you are a server, you really should have a better answer when someone wants a recommendation or two. We ordered drinks and waters and both took a very long time. Our server disappeared for quite awhile and I couldn't flag down anyone else to ask about our drinks. They weren't overly crowded, so this was odd. We did finally get our drinks at the same time as our appetizers, but waited quite awhile for our entrees. I ended up ordering the "~Capellini alla Siciliana - Sea of Cortez Wild Shrimp, Garlic, Chile, Parsley, Sun-Dried Tomato, White Wine, Arugula - 19.95" (copied from their menu.) I was very, very, VERY disappointed. The dish was basically a giant pile of flavorless noodles and three (yeah, THREE) rubbery shrimp. There was no hint of white wine or garlic, and there wasn't salt or pepper at the table to season the dish myself. I did have the Affogato for dessert and it was tasty, which was the only plus of the whole experience. Overpriced and under-flavored. Sorry, Sea Salt, I won't be back.

I've long been a fan of The Paris and had high hopes for Sea Salt. So far, I've been under impressed (not unimpressed). The menu at Sea Salt is comprehensive and includes appetizers, salads, pizzas, pastas, paninis and desserts. Any item on the menu with the name Nonna Maria in it is a safe bet that it will be fantastic. The Olives and Focaccia di Nonna Maria (Castelvetrano Nocellara del Belice olives in California Ranch extra virgin olive oil $5. 95) features a fantastic focaccia that was moist and chewy. The "Before the Pasta" (appetizers) called Nonna Maria's Meatballs and Tomato Sauce comes with the wonderful focaccia as well for $7.95. Those same meatballs (amazingly moist with a nice blend of meats and spices) are also on the pasta menu in the form of Spaghetti and Nonna Maria's Meatballs $15.95. Finally, the Ravioli di Nonna Maria ($15.95) round out the owner's grandmother's recipes. I repeat, Nonna Maria knows what to do in the kitchen and every item with her name on it is a standout. The restaurant is gorgeous (but very loud), location is in a great neighborhood and most of the items I've tried are excellent. The prices seem a bit high and the service is hit or miss. After three visits, I still have mixed feelings overall. To read my full review of Sea Salt, visit my website.

I enjoyed my first couple of meals here. I thought the carbonara, while a tad citrusy, was good. Same with the braised lamb entree and cucumber salad. In fact, I enjoyed both meals enough that I was rather surprised that the restaurant received such poor ratings here on Urbanspoon. However, after my third visit, I now understand all the hate. I had the ribeye and it was truly horrible. Inedible, to be precise. It wasn't cooked as asked, it was a very poor cut of meat, and the accompanying sides did nothing to improve it. My buddy had ordered the same entree and he experienced the same thing. We both sent our meals back - and we are definitely not the type to do that. It was just that bad. Even my wife's carbonara wasn't the same as the first time I tried it (and where was the egg?). A truly horrible experience.

Yelper Monica T and I had lunch here a short while ago to try and figure out what the hell was up with the low ratings- yes, we sacrificed our stomachs and our wallets for you, fellow food lovers! I'll get to the nitty gritty, and why you're even bothering to read this review- the food. I had the orecchiette pugliese which was absolutely fantastic!! So good, that I would order it again on my second visit and probably my third as well. There was a great balance between the sausage, tomato sauce, fontina fondue and the pieces of Kale were a really pleasant surprise. I will definitely be back, and would suggest this to my family for special events and casual lunches alike. The physical layout of the menu I think could use some tweaking- the font was a little hard to read and felt smooshed. I also think they could probably find a better way to separate out the dishes to make it feel as clean and open as the restaurant itself. The service was great, but I think the water service is really unnecessary unless it's dinner. It was a little awkward for me, since I feel like I have to say thank you every time they come by- and I happened to have had a lot of water. *Although I could just fill my own water so they don't have to come by and do it for me- so there you go. The interior is very bright and clean. I personally love the open, airy feel. I feel that this would be a great place for any type of lunch given the large floor plan, they could see almost any size group very easily.

I spent about 2.5 hours for dinner here on a Friday night. I enjoy long evenings of dining and am a slow champagne drinker and slow eater...fortunate for them. The bartender was lovely - great drinking experience. I'd order another round from him no problem. He send us out to the sunny patio for some sun and drinks - what could be better on a warm spring evening in Salt Lake?! We finally got seated (I'm fully enjoying the long wait times) and ordered our food from the waiter with the nice voice but not so much knowledge about the menu. It's ok - I can only order a few things, being vegetarian. They actually had 3 types of gnocci on their menu - heavenly! I ordered the 5 cheese one (cinque formaggio for you Italian types) and it was divine!! Too bad I ate so much of the wrong appetizer they brought out that we got to keep as a bonus, so I couldn't even fit the last 2 bites into my mouth, although I generally have yet to finish a meal in any restaurant, no big surprise there. We spent about $100 for three of us. Not bad considering there were a couple of rounds of drinks and some appetizers. So other than the fact that they offer baby animals to eat on the menu, I thought the restaurant was lovely. The bar was great, the patio - awesome, food - tasty. Food server was rocky, but he was nice. I'd go back for sure, especially during summer months to sit outside on their awesome patio - I'm a big fan of outdoor eating. And they serve great champagne by the glass, and like I said, the 3 gnocchi options. Can't beat that!

Hit up Sea Salt one night for dessert and was not disappointed! Staff was surprisingly really cool about seating us even when we said we were just getting dessert plus, we are those annoying people who also don't add alcohol to their bill. But they were so cool to us! Dessert hit the spot, tiramisu was super! I had been once before with the in-laws a while back and did lunch, can't recall exactly what I ordered, some sort of steak salad I think- but it was delish!

5 star atmosphere 3 star food Had the veggie pizza and a spinach gnocchi. Both were good but not great. Maybe i had higher expectations because the location and ambience are so sweet. Also if you are under the age of 25 and single there was a 5 star hostess and you would do well to try to get her #...

Alright anyone who says the food isn't good is kidding themselves. The food is good, but is it clean? No. The kitchen is very uncleanly and they reuse most of the food that you don't finish eating. If you don't eat it 1 of 2 things happen. 1. The staff eats it with their hands and then they come and serve you or 2. My personal favorite is they take it and put it on someone else's plate that orders. I'm not joking and now that you know this be careful of the spice trays....they don't clean them and there are numerous hands in there a night. BUT WAIT the best thing about this restaurant is that the managers tell the staff they have to size people up if they look like they'll spend money then take care of them. Otherwise who cares. The people that work there are actually awesome from the servers down. Management sucks and it's all because of their over controlling owner who thinks he is Gods gift to earth--I'm not kidding he actually thinks he's God and tells his staff he is. He is a chauvinist pig and if you come in you'll know because you can always find him at the bar yelling about how AMAZING HE IS. Ha---you're classless and it's a good thing you own a restaurant so you can order people around. It's a creepy place to be because if you don't see the owner he's home watching your every move on his cameras. This restaurant is a pathetic excuse for a restaurant solely because of the poor management. I think the worst part of the restaurant is the owner makes all staff members walk in a continuous clock wards circle and you feel like you're in a fishbowl. Like back off manager I'm trying to eat.

I went with a friend last night and, after reading the other reviews, had a much better experience than most! We arrived around 6, and the restaurant was almost completely empty (almost eerily), but when I walked in, I was shocked at how beautiful it was! Loved the high ceilings, the ceiling-height wine fridges behind the bar, the openness, and the white tiles. Felt very clean and open. For the food- my friend and I were both very skeptical due to previous word-of-mouth reviews and those I had read on Yelp, but were very pleasantly surprised! We began with the spinach salad, which had some sort of marinated onion in it that tasted awesome. We also shared the Margherita pizza and the Gnocchi with pesto. The Gnocchi is a chicken dish, however, neither of us eat meat, so we asked our server to sub it with oven roasted tomatoes. Best decision of the night. The tomatoes were freshly roasted and bursting with flavor. AMAZING. And the pesto sauce was delish too! It was also tossed with green beans that were perfectly cooked, and still had a crunch to them. Gnocchi could have been fresh, but that's the only thing that could have made the dish better. As for the Pizza, the crust was perfect, the pizza was HOT. Ours was not soggy, but the "sogginess" others mentioned probably comes from the fresh mozzarella and the olive oil they put on top- if the pizza sat too long, I could see how it would get soggy. My recommendation? Go for an early-ish dinner when they aren't busy. All of our food came out in a timely manner, was hot and great! We had a surprisingly (in a good way) great experience! One more thing- we also thought it was pretty fairly priced- for all of the food mentioned above, plus a glass of wine and a beer, it was $28 each + tip. We left stuffed and happy.

I am updating my review of Sea Salt for the third time now since they opened. Hands down the food is the all-star here, they really now how to do Italian. The pasta's are cooked perfectly and severed hot, san marzano tomato sauces are excellent, the meatballs are so tender and delicious, the seafood is fresh and cooked perfectly and the wine list great...all Italian and priced reasonably... So Why Not 5 Stars you ask? Service or lack of it, the exception being Katelin who is a well trained, pleasant and always smiling, she is great and if all the servers where like her, this place would get 6 stars. Unfortunately, on this night I had another server who I had on another visit and did not care for, but thought I would give him another chance ( nice enough guy but big mistake). I am not going to list everything, but here are a few highlights. When we finished our apps (that were took an absorbent amount of time) he cleared them away and then took the dirty silverware and put them back on top of our bread plates. Next after our dinner he returns after some time and proceeds to clear the dishes and silverware by 'stacking' them on the table between us. Again after some time, our dessert comes and he places them on the un-cleaned table (never crumbed or wiped) and then within 60 seconds the check comes but 15 minutes after we finished dessert until it was picked up by an attentive busboy.... The food is fantastic ( 5 Stars) , the decor is great, the water boys are on it, the hostess's are welcoming and friendly, and all of this makes up for amateur hour in wait service we had, for the second time. My Tip! Ask for Katelin (or actually any of the female servers, I am not going to name the gentleman server here)

As an east coast transplant i have rarely been impressed with Italian food west of the Mississippi( or the pennsylvania border for that matter) I feel like i have a pretty good idea of what makes an Italian restaurant work or not, and trust me, this place has it figured out. The expansive menu leaves no stone unturned and i was impressed with every aspect of the meal, even the price considering how nice and fancy it looks. Awesome place!

We've been to Sea Salt twice and have liked the food both times. The service was great, and everything was delicious. Perhaps some of the bad reviews were from busy nights? We've ordered both pizza and entrees and have had no complaints. A little pricy yes, but excellent quality.

Huh. That's my review: huh. I'm entirely ambivalent on this one, to be honest--I'd give it a straight up two and a half star blah if I could. Not even sure I have an opinion, and it's a whole week after my first visit so I've had plenty of time to come to terms with one. The thing is, Sea Salt is one of those places that could be great. Beautiful ambiance, a well-intended (if not a bit overindulgent) menu. And the service was nowhere near as bad for us as for previous reviewers. But for a space that's clearly been thoughtfully designed, a little more attention to basic function--like seating--would go a long way. The idea here is clearly to provide that European shared table experience, but big, fat American customers carrying even bigger coats and purses need some guidance on this foreign concept (and more room between chairs). Like the menu, our waiter could have used some restraint. He seemed to think we'd want to be corrected on poor pronunciation of Italian dishes. He was wrong. Other than that, he didn't offer much in the way of guidance through that enormous menu, and while he'd check on us quite regularly, he seemed primarily concerned with whether we liked the food or not, versus whether he could be of further service. There was a distinct nervousness in that attention that rubbed off unpleasantly. My salad of arugula and shaved parmesan in lemony vinaigrette was delicious--though it'd be a sin not to get such a simple plate of food right. A bowl of linguine and clams, on the other hand, was less than mediocre. The clams were tiny, sandy, and not particularly fresh. My partner had something with kale and fondue in it that tasted alright, but looked about as appetizing as a flooded sewer grate in a storm. Watery, with wilted brownish leaves swimming in slimy goo. At least they had Hendricks at the bar. I won't likely return to Sea Salt any time soon, not as much because I had a bad experience--I didn't--but because I didn't really have a good one either. It's too bad, really.

The food was ok, but the service was lousy. I was excited to be there for the first time, because I had heard good things about the food. I went with a group of friends. It took forever for the food to show up, which was ok since we just chat and try to have a good time. When the food comes, I noticed a string of wire in my food. I was calm and politely ask the server to change out my food, but his response was condescending as if I was trying cause a problem. He did not replace my meal right away. He checked with someone in the kitchen. Then, he agreed to replace my meal. By the time the replacement was on the table, my friends were done with their food. I regret not checking yelp on Sea Salt before I go there. It looks like their service has been pretty bad for a while and the management had done little to correct it. There are many excellent restaurants in town. I will not be going to Sea Salt even if you pay me to go there.

Very impressed with the service and food. Our server took the time to understand what wines we like and her recommendation was spot on..One thing I am pretty keen on is when a server just tries to up-sale me and recommends the most expensive wine..Not here. My wife had the roasted chicken and I had the Fennel sausage pizza. We both had a roasted beet salad that was delicious and fresh. The overall ambience of Sea Salt is refreshing. I would recommend this place to anyone. prices were fair for the dish size but extremely fair for the taste. We will be going back here at least once a month.

Didn't have a very good experience here. The place looks nice from the outside and I had walked past it in July before its official opening during it's soft opening so wanted to try it out next time I was in SLC. When you walk in it reminds you of a cafeteria with a bunch of tables and A LOT of open space. Too much open space. They need to divide it up and create more coziness to it. The counters look nice to eat at though if you're with just one or two other people. Maybe you would get your food faster... which I'll expound upon later. So we order appetizers and wait for about 20 minutes before we get restless and ask about them. The waitress apparently was waiting for all the appetizers to be ready before bringing out any. The prosciutto had apparently been ready for a little while so we asked her to bring it out first. I liked it but I've tasted much better. The other appetizers came out soon after. The watermelon dish was meh. The watermelon was not sweet and actually had a big chunk of rind on one piece. The greens around it were fresh though. The arugula salad was ok. We then ordered a margherita pizza with bufala and carbonara pasta. We waited for about 45 minutes and about 20-25 minutes into it we notice that there are a ton of dishes just sitting under the heat lamps not moving. One of them was a pizza and we couldn't see the content of the others. We wait another 15-20 minutes and notice most of the dishes are still there and ask when ours is going to be out. She finally brings the dishes out and the pizza that had been sitting around at least 20 minutes is one of them! It was completely soggy and luke warm but only because of the heat lamps. The pasta wasn't any fresher. We say we want to send only the pizza back because it was just inedible looking and the waitress says she has to ask her manager if they can get approval for that. The manager comes out and we explain the situation and she was nice enough and apologetic. The freshly made margherita comes out and it looks a lot better. It didn't taste all that great though, very bland, which was disappointing. We ate the pasta while waiting for the new pizza and it was spicy (not black pepper spicy, but red pepper spicy) and not very good. I've had SOOOO much better. Even making it from a packaged sauce myself. I had an espresso to wash it down and it was just ok. 2.5 stars ambience (not very couple friendly unless you sit at the counter and don't look back), 3 service (only because they didn't make a huge deal about returning bad food) and 2 for food. I won't be back.

When I found out that I am meeting friends at this place, I yelp it, and found out their low reviews. Therefore, I walked in with a low expectation. Not sure if that's the reason or not, but I don't think it's that bad. Over priced, but not bad. It was Monday night around 7:30pm, and it was not even half full. The moving sofa is a little hard and uncomfortable to sit still. The waiter was really patient with us, especially when my girlfriend was almost 30 mins late. We had three different salad, and they are good. I had baby spinach, and although the Vinegar was a little over powering, but it sort of covered up the unique after taste of the spinach. The pizza was nice, but one of the previous review mentioned, it was a little too watery in the center. Not to mention that it's really way too pricy, $15 for a simple basic about six-inch pizza. It's a little too hard to swallow.

Recommended by friends, but found it disappointing after trying it out one night. Food: Like a previous reviewer, the prosciutto was good but nothing special. The sauce in the "Spaghetti and Nonna Maria's Meatballs" was watery and bland. The "Orecchiette alla Pugliese" (half shell pasta with fennel sausage, kale, sage butter etc.) was overly salty, although all the ingredients were actually quite good. Price: Doesn't match the quality of the food. Service: The server was nice and sweet, but decided to spend time chatting with some friends while waiting for our dishes to come out. The food ended up sitting on the counter for quite a while before coming to our table. Atmosphere: Modern, bright, but felt a bit sterile. The music a bit too loud for conversation. It seemed to have potential and I really wanted to like the place. Sadly it is not meant to be.

Rude staff and very pretentious. Came in near closing time, we were sat and then forgotten about. We were both in shorts and t-shirts and were shunned while everyone around us was serviced. Left without eating. This is my second horrible customer service experience. I will never go back and if you are smart, you will follow my lead.

For Salt Lake City, this is as good as it gets. I hail from San Francisco via NYC, & this place is on par with Delfina, SF or any of the top notch northern Italian restaurants. It's sophisticated, but not pretentious. Moreover, it truly felt authentic...think, Venetian Osteria, complete with all the Euro decorative touches. I joined Yelp to write this review in fear of losing this restaurant. At first I was afraid that if I wrote this I'd need a reservation to get in again; however, the waitress, who was lovely, told us that they needed more business. I have one thing to say about the food here: "Holy crap, was this good!". PS: We came for dinner w/ our two young kids. While this is not a "kid's restaurant" it was certainly kid-friendly. We had 2 kid's pizzas, watermelon/fennel salad, cucumber salad, focaccia w/ olives w/ sea salt & red pepper flakes, grilled veggies w/ fresh mozzarella pizza, a fabulous bottle of Italian white vino (they offer 2 oz. glasses to sample wines before you buy) & the portabello gnocchi, which even my 5 year old was flipping-out about it was so good. YUMMY!

Went to this restaurant. I Would not recommend it at all. We have been here a few times and the food has been good enough but the service has been awful each time. I give 1 star because the food is good and one star because I would rather support a neighborhood restaurant. After we waited over an hour for a small table we were told that drinks and appetizers were slow because two staff members called in sick for the lady gaga show. I couldn't believe this. After an incredibly slow round of drinks and appetizers we walked out. End of story, never going back. I started this review last night and woke up this morning still angry about our experience. That takes away 1 star. Next time we will just go straight to Stoneground. That is where we ended up last night where the food and service is better anyway.

An upscale neighborhood bistro with excellent potential. The menu features gourmet pizza, imaginative pasta and unique sandwiches. Substantial multi course meals can also be fashioned from the A la carte menu (though this could become pricey). I visited Sea Salt for lunch. Their large patio dining area offered a pleasant break from a hectic day. But, to tell the truth...I was a bit disappointed with my 1st visit. I was in the mood for fish, and ordered the poached tuna sandwich. But, I could barely find (or taste) the tuna. The two halves of the sandwich had totally different flavor and texture. The dominant flavor of one side was a large slice of hard boiled egg yolk..the other was an exercise in how many caper berries you can fit in a sandwich. Somebody in the kitchen REALLY likes caper berries. On the plus side, they are in a great neighborhood, have a nice patio with pleasant ambiance (perhaps just a bit to too elegant for some of us)...and these folks clearly intend to excel. We will try them again sometime.

I am sorry to see such paltry reviews of this place. It is ALWAYS going off, any night of the week at any time, so I can't really say why it's reviews are so marginal. I have been there before and felt less pleased, but last night was bliss. Of course, as I came out of the bathroom with my 2 year old in tow, my husband walked up to me with a glass of prosecco, so that's always a good way to get started! But their gorgonzola gnocchi, I wanted to lick the plate. The waiter was just ok, but it was super busy there.

I like this place quite a bit. It is pricey, but the atmosphere, food, and service make it worthwhile. I have had the spaghetti and meatballs as well as the lamb, and both of them were stunningly delicious. Both times I ate there we were served by some very friendly and helpful waitstaff. And while we ate we greatly enjoyed taking in the views of the dining room; the lighting is amazing. The only thing that put me off was that the staff is quite open to the idea of splitting tables between parties. They tried doing this to me and my date during what we wanted to be a very special evening. We immediately asked for a table for ourselves, and the staff fortunately complied. I'd say it's not too good of a quirk/tradition/whatever for a restaurant to have.

Mediocre at best. My fish smelled bad and I sent it back. The waiter got tongue-tied and had to go through some extensive explanation with the manager who rolled his eyes over my sending it back. I traded in the fish for their creative take on a NY steak, but it was badly undercooked, and had to send that back to be cooked further as well. Unprofessional and inexperienced staff. The one plus is its a beautiful place.

We where so excited to see an Italian restaurant open in SLC. However it turned out to be one of our more disappointing dinner experiences - we have gone there twice to make sure it wasn't a fluke. The first experience was made worse by a bad waiter - inattentive and rude. The food (pizza and a pasta) was mediocre. On the second visit my wife ordered Fish which was good and I had a pasta which was again pretty average. I must say for an italian restaurant they don't have a good selection of pastas. Setting is OK, food is average, service average - don't recommend.

Salt Lake is lucky to have a great little neighborhood restaurant like this. Very Euro. Very Chic. Yet, very comfortable. It's a bit of the Mediterranean Italian style right in the Rockies. They have a nice patio which seems to flow right from the main dining area outside. They have huge windowed walls that open up and turn in to doors. The all white and marble interior make you feel you've escaped to Italy. The food. Well, this is where things get interesting. This is true, real Italian food. Super fresh, super authentic, super delicious. This is NOT your typical Utahn style Olive Garden crap. Sure, you'll find pomodoro sauce here. But it's fresh and not premade like the chains do it. They also have a wonderful wine selection. I highly recommend not only going here but coming back and educating yourself on what Italian food should taste like. This is not Chef Boyardee thank you very much! Well done Sea Salt. Well done! Now I only wish they were open on Sunday and did a brunch.

This has been my absolute favorite spot in SLC - have gone over and over again for their delicious pizzas. beautiful patio and nice Italian wine list. This past week, sitting out on the patio, a tremendous wind storm started blowing over table settings. Nonetheless, Dario felt it was a good idea to put a full wine glass I had ordered on the table. Within 60 seconds, the wind had picked it up and poured it all over me (luckily it was a white wine). Dario comes back - knowing full well that I hadn't even managed a sip - and asked if he could get me another glass - making careful note that the restaurant couldn't pay for the one that had just blown over. Seriously, Dario? You have a big fan at the table who has introduced dozens of new guests to the restaurant, but instead of taking care of things like most restaurants know to do, you basically said 'we have enough business here' - and now, I am actually hesitant to ever return. All for $6 (of which the restaurant's cost is no more than $3). Math whiz. Buona sera Dario.

Danger, Danger... my wife and I went there for lunch yesterday. The food was good, the atmosphere was a pretty good attempt at something European. However, about three hours after leaving, both of us became violently ill. You name the pain and symptom we had it. This is the only thing we have both eaten in about 4 days... If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and sounds like a duck, guess what its a duck. We got food poisoning from this restaurant. My guess was the beet and cheese salad. $40 bucks for OK tasting food I can live with. $40 bucks for two days of living hell... I'll pass. Art S.

Recently went here with a couple of friends. I loved the atmosphere! Inside was very bright and open. We shared the meatballs for an app, and they were delicious. The salads we got were also good. Maybe a little salty. My husband and I both got a gnocchi dish which they have a whole section of their menu devoted to. Mine was good, but not amazing. I do want to give this restaurant another shot though. Next time I'm going to try their brick-oven pizza which looked amazing!!!

I agree with some of the other reviews here. This place has potential, but falls down with just so-so food, and service that moves at a glacier's pace. Some menu tweaks would help. For being off the beaten path, Sea Salt will needs some serious upgrades to stick around. Ambiance is nice, but that won't carry a restaurant nowadays...

Well prepared and fresh food but nothing I would order twice. Probably won't go back.

Have to call for a reservation, so I did, on Friday afternoon for a Saturday time. Didn't hear back, so called again on Saturday morning. Got a call back on Saturday afternoon, so all set. When we arrived at the restaurant at 6:30 it was not very full and so I wonder if I needed the reservation in the first place. But, never hurts to be sure... The ambiance... beautiful. Tall ceilings, white interior, with a wide open architecture and an open kitchen. Very impressive. Due to the open space and high ceilings, the noise level was very low in spite of the number of people there. Definitely a place where you can have a conversation while you eat. The server was very attentive and well informed. She was also doing a great job keeping us taken care of us even though she had quite a large set of tables to manage. THE FOOD: We started with a shared Insalata Caprese, It was very good. The fresh Basil was great, the mozzarella was soft and flavorful. For dinner we went for the highly recommended Gnocchi. The wife tried the alla Norma, and I went for the Fritti. The alla Norma was superb; full of cheese and a very delicious sauce, hearty and filling. My Gnocchi though was a disappointment... it was tasty, but it was lacking. After the first few bites I realized that there was no depth to the flavors in the dish and it was quite one dimensional and got boring. For desert we shared a bowl of gelato. We tried two flavors, the olive oil and the ricotta. Both were very good. The "sea salt" sprinkled on the gelato was a very unique addition. But the size of the salt crystals made it so that the gelato would be gone and the salt would remain on the tongue much longer. This reduced the enjoyment of the salt. Slightly more fine ground salt will be better. The olive oil gelato was very unique, and t he taste of a mild olive oil in the gelato was an unexpected treat. Contrary to other reviews we found that the place is indeed kid friendly and we will be going back with the kids another time. I would unconditionally recommend this place for a variety of outing styles, from an intimate (for two) dinner, to a family dinner, and even a dinner for a large group of friends (with a reservation). We will be going back for sure, and my overall rating might improve when I try other dishes from the menu.

Great appetizers, great food, amazing service. We had a sparkling wine and it was perfect with the meal. Our water glasses and wine glasses were constantly being filled. The waitress was extremely attentive. Only complaint, the dessert wasn't my favorite. Everything thing else was absolutely fabulous.

Lost at Sea I would say that this place focused on trying to be cool and forgot that it was serving food. I can say that having traveled a lot in the US and around the world, that this is some of the worst food I have experienced. Taking some people there the other night for the first time, I found not one enjoyed their meal---I was totally embarassed. The kitchen is in complete disarray and to have to wait 45 min to get a cheese pizza for an appetizer is unacceptable at those prices. The restaurant was less than 25% full yet it took over 2 hours to have dinner with no dessert. Plates were brought one at a time, and all the pasta dishes were floating in water and had no flavor. The salmon was overcooked and for the price had nothing memorable about it. Our waitress was embarassed and did a good job of trying to apologize at each opportunity, but the kitchen needs to take a course on how to prepare food and how to manage orders. Sitting outside is at least a little better than the noise level inside with only 1/4 of the place full. I can only imagine what it would be like in the winter when everyone has to sit inside---you won't be able to hear yourself. That should only help the kitchen as they are not hearing anything now anyway. All show and no go and not a place worth going back to ever again unless they make some wholesale changes to the kitchen and service staff...like starting over.

This is a new restaurant in the neighborhood. I had high hopes. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. Bus boys tried to take our appetizer twice before our enterees arrived. There was a 30 minute gap between apps and the first entree and a 10 min gap between our two entrees! Many other issues. The food was just ok but I see a lot of promise. They should have figured this out already. I'll go back in a month hoping it's all worked out.

This is a new restaurant in Sugar House. They don't even have a sign up yet. Our server told us this was on purpose so that the staff could work out the kinks before advertising began. We ate here for lunch on a Sat in mid-July and have nothing to complain about. The service was excellent (although there were very few customers) and the food was delicious. I will definitely come back for dinner in the near future to see how they do. I hope this place makes it. It's in an ideal location and show terrific promise!

The food is fine and the atmosphere is lovely, but the service is unschooled. I went for dinner last night and when it first opened. Both times my party waited 30 minutes for a drink and an hour for food. Last night menus were set on the table, and the server walked off. The dink and specials menu were not pointed out. The specials were never described for us. The second round of drinks took another 30 minutes. The unprofessional service does not fit the atmosphere or price. For terrific professioal service, an equally lovely atmosphere and better food try Martine's downtown. Oh, another thing... The first time I dined there the server called one of the members of my party at eleven o'clock at night to say his bank was off and that she needed to pay more!

This restaurant is not worth the cost. The service is spotty. The sister restaurant Paris Bistro is so much better!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
